Ballot Drop Boxes
Have you returned your ballot in one of the six Cowlitz County ballot drop boxes? If so, you are among the majority of voters in Cowlitz County.
The Cowlitz County Auditor received Help America Vote Act funds to purchase the ballot boxes. Since 2007, when the ballot boxes were installed, the percent of ballots returned through them has steadily increased to 70%. Voters can return their ballot in any of the ballot boxes in the County. The Civic Center Circle has the busiest ballot box, and was tripled in size in 2008 to accommodate the increasing volume. Based on use data, we project 39,000 ballots will be returned through the ballot boxes for the 2012 Presidential Election, 17,000 of those through the Civic Center Circle box.
The ballot drop boxes are gray with black lettering, and have a red sign on top when they are open. They are secure, accessible and convenient. They were installed to make it easier for voters to return their ballot and to make voting more accessible for voters with disabilities. The ballots are collected regularly by two election officials and taken to the Elections Department for processing. No postage is required.
The ballot boxes are open 20 days before each election. They are available 24/7, and close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Ballot drop box locations are listed on the instruction insert with your ballot and can be found on the link below.
