Candidates Filing for Office
in Island County in the 2012 Elections


The regular candidate filing week is scheduled for May 14-18, 2012.

During candidate filing week only, our Elections Office at 400 N. Main Street in Coupeville
will be open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Online Candidate Filing will be available from 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14th through 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18th.

A Special Filing Period will be held for offices in which no candidate has filed, or for offices that became vacant prior to the statutory deadline for appearing on the 2012 ballot.

Pursuant to RCW 29A.24.081, any candidate may mail in their declaration of candidacy for an office no sooner than Friday, May 21, 2010. Any declarations received prior to that day will be returned and the candidate shall be permitted to re-submit their declaration during the filing period.

All candidates must be an elector of their district. In accordance with RCW 29A.24.131, candidates may withdraw their declaration of candidacy at any time before the close of business on the Thursday following the last day for candidates to file. For 2012, that day is Thursday, May 24. This notice of withdrawal must be in writing. No filing fee may be refunded to any candidate who withdraws under this section.

There is no withdrawal period for declarations filed during a special filing period. The filing officer may permit the withdrawal of a filing for any elected office of a city, town, or special district at the request of the candidate at any time before a primary if the primary ballots for that city, town, or special district have not been ordered.
